In
2001, my late husband, Cuban percussionist
Juan "Long John" Oliva aka "Penalty"
and I created "Lucumi Productions"
and the "AC Timba Jazz Project"
(Afro Cuban Timba Jazz Project).
On June 21, 2004 Long John passed, and I have
made great efforts to continue on with his
musical legacy, wishes and dreams to continue
to SUPPORT and keep CUBAN music alive and
thriving. Shortly after Long John's passing,
The AC Timba Jazz Project was awarded "The
2003-2004 Latin Jazz Artist of the Year",
appeared on the KCET "24th Annual Holiday
Celebration" at the Dorothy Chandler
Pavilion and received The 2006 official IAJE
Award for "Outstanding Service to Jazz
Education at the Thirty-Third IAJE International
Conference in New York.
Since then, I have had the honor to work with
many talented artists including; Francisco
Aguabella, Yosvany Terry, Maraca, Alfredo
de La Fé, Chuchito Valdés, Ignacio
Berroa and many many more...in Long John's
memory.
